JUST seven weeks after their All Ireland title winning season ended, the Na Piarsaigh senior hurlers begin the defence of their Credit Union sponsored Senior Hurling Championship crown.
If ever the strength of the Limerick senior hurling championship needed to be proved, this weekend’s clash between the last two Munster Club champions (Kilmallock and Na Piarsaigh) serves as a timely reminder. A huge crowd is expected in Newcastlewest on Sunday for what promises to the an epic encounter.
It is a sign of the depth of talent in Limerick at the moment, that the Patrickswell and Adare challenge, who meet in Bruff on Sunday, isn’t even the headline game of the weekend.
Hurling fans are in for a real treat as the main title contenders look to get off to a good start in what will surely be a hard fought battle for the senior crown.
With the season about to begin, it is always worth a look at how the bookmakers are pricing up the challengers. There is no surprise as Na Piarsaigh are favourites to claim the crown, with Patrickswell and Kilmallock as second favourites. Doon, many people’s outside bet, look to be good value also, at 6/1.
