THE LIMERICK footballers return to National Football League action this Sunday as they face Clare in round three of Division 3.
The game, which throws in at 2pm in Newcastlewest, is a repeat of the 2015 Munster Senior Football championship tie, which Clare won 0-15 to 0-13.
Limerick manager John Brudair is expecting another tough contest again this weekend against Limerick’s near neighbours.
“All the games in Division 3 are being won by narrow margins. We know we need a step up in performance from our first two games [Loss to Longford – Draw versus Tipperary]. There is some luck needed, but the base for success is hard work and the lads all know that.”
Limerick will be boosted by the return of UCD’s Séan O’Dea (Kilteely-Dromkeen) and UL’s Gearóid Hegarty (St Patrick’s), Danny Neville (Ballysteen), Cian Sheehan (Newcastlewest) and Kevin Moore (Glin) who lined out in recent weeks in the Sigerson Cup. Indeed Gearóid Hegarty is expected to line out Limerick on Sunday, should he come through this weekend’s Fitzgibbon Cup semi final and final.
“The fact that those many lads have played at the latter stages of the Sigerson Cup is a real sign of where Limerick football is going,” added Brudair.
“Those lads, along with our existing panel and backroom team, are all gaining valuable experience every time they play and train. That can only be good for Limerick.”
Probable Limerick team:
Donal O’Sullivan; Johnny McCarthy, Paudie Browne, Seán O’Dea; Stephen Cahill, Iain Corbett, Brian Fanning; Gearóid Hegarty, Darragh Treacy; Cian Sheehan, Pa Ranahan, Seanie Buckley; Danny Neville, Ian Ryan, Peter Nash.
